The following has just a few suggestions for books to investigate when first starting lessons.  There are many good books of music out there from which to choose.

Vocal Books for Beginning Study:
Classical Songbooks (compilations with songs in different languages):
  • Soprano:
    • ​First Book of Soprano Solos (Hal Leonard publisher.  Parts 1, 2 & 3 combined.  Can also be purchased separately.  CD of practice piano accompaniments are also available)
    • Second Book of Soprano Solos (Hal Leonard publisher. In two volumes purchased separately).  Next level up from the First Book of Solos
  • Mezzo-Soprano/Alto:

Musical Theatre:
  • Singer's Musical Theatre Anthologies by Richard Walters (Hal Leonard publishing) are excellent books arranged by voice type (soprano, mezzo/belter, tenor, baritone/bass) which come in 5 different volumes for each voice type.  Also available from the same publisher are books with 16 bar cuts from songs (again arranged by voice type) specifically designed for auditions.
